The Great Tower at Dover castle recently underwent a major restoration project. Many craftsmen were used to create accurate reproductions of 12th century objects and décor. Towards the end of the project the forge work was running behind schedule and I was approached by the manufacturers of the oak doors for the castle to take on some of the forge work to help bring the project in on time. We forged the hinges, bolts and latch for the main entrance door and much of the internal door furniture.
The designs were specified from detailed research of the Romanesque style of the time. The hinges were substantial and very ornate supporting heavy oak doors, they varied in length from 30” to 50”.
The doors are all colourful and the hinges very decorative. One of the doors is even clad in white leather.
What Our Clients Think
I have just received my exquisite leaf pattern curtain poles. Looking closely it is apparent it is a detailed work of art by highly skilled artisans. They are a lovely finishing touch for our bedroom and something we will enjoy for many years. Andy was very helpful in turning my vague ideas into a beautiful result.
Thank you Andy and the team.
I wanted a bespoke gift for my wife for our 6th (Iron) wedding anniversary. Andy crafted our initials in wrought iron. His craftsmanship completely exceeded my expectations and my wife was speechless (rare). I would recommend this bespoke service to all our friends and family without reservation.
I am thrilled with the chandelier and all my guests are hugely impressed too – I have been sending pics by email across the country too. It is a wonderful work of art – and I LOVE it – I am more than happy to recommend you to customers
The 8 light chandelier that we recently bought from you is in place now and it looks wonderful. The bulbs are 42 watt clear halogen, flame tipped, candles, that really sparkle, you can also dim them. We are thrilled with the overall effect and want to thank you for a quality product.
