Andrew Hall FWCB Master Blacksmith

For the first time this century in Devon in the UK there is going to be a major gathering of Blacksmiths from all over the world.
The International Blacksmiths Festival is to be held at the Devon County Showground, Westpoint, Exeter, Devon in August.

The event will showcase and celebrate the Best of Blacksmithing from around the world, the people who participate in this ancient but essential craft, its historic roots and its relevance and place in today’s society.

Open to the public, this important event will include demonstrations by some of the finest blacksmiths, metalworkers and artists from Europe and beyond.

Close to my home and my work I am involved in organising the competition side of the event.

It is very exciting to be involved in such a big event and it promises to be four days of wonderful entertainment and interest for blacksmiths and the general public alike.

There are many attractions including sessions to allow both children and adults to have a go, so if you have always fancied hitting some hot metal with a hammer, don’t miss out on this unique opportunity.

Other attractions will include: Trade Stands featuring the best the West country has to offer, Local Produce Stalls, Old Fashioned Amusements, Morris and Irish Dancing, Traditional Musicians, Medieval Enactment Groups, Celebrity Chef, Falconry Display and many other activities.

For the blacksmiths there are competitions, master classes and demonstrations from world renowned experts in their field such as Brian Brazeal from the USA.

Don’t miss out on this unique opportunity August 13-16, Wetspoint, Exeter, see http://www.internationalblacksmithsfest.com for more details.
